One Room Challenge Week 3: Sanding, Lighting, and Colors Picked!

There comes a point in every designer’s process where the less sexy work begins. You’ve done the planning, you’ve looked at renders, and swam around in paint samples. Now it’s time to actually DO the work. This is our week.

The contrast of Moroccan Spice as an accent against the Sparkling Emerald

We’ve had quotes for the electrical and ceiling repair come in and get on the schedule for the week, and selected our terra cotta flavor for the contrasting door (we went with Moroccan Spice! Image 1). This week is getting down to the business of sanding the china cabinet (image 2) and waiting on everything to arrive in addition to those repairs getting done.

This beautiful piece was a successful Facebook Marketplace vintage find!

The really exciting news is that some of our big items have come in! We have a plan to do a gold accent on the china cabinet once we refinish it and paint it black. A nice, simple line of gold to accent the dimensionality of the fine woodwork, and we’ll achieve this with gilding wax. We received a small bottle of this today and experimented by gilding a small hand worked metal bowl. Can’t wait to get to the point where we can use this on the cabinet!

But by far the biggest and most exciting thing to arrive in the mail came all the way from Morocco- our pendant lights! They’re every bit as stunning and carefully constructed as we hoped. Karen and I agree they look even more impressive in person, but you tell us your thoughts! (Images 3, 4, 5)

James after we unboxed one of the pair of beautiful pendant lights!

Until next week, keep up with the progress of everyone in the One Room Challenge, Fall ‘22 edition here: https://www.oneroomchallenge.com/orc-blog/
